Can a broader rehab programme help people with low vision live better?
NCT ID NCT07827040
First seen Sep 18, 2026 · Last updated Sep 18, 2026
Summary
Researchers are testing whether a multidisciplinary vision rehabilitation programme improves quality of life more than low vision training alone for adults with visual impairment. The trial enrolls 1,000 Cantonese-speaking adults in Hong Kong aged 18 to 80 who have a clinical diagnosis of low vision and a stable eye condition. Participants are assigned to one of three groups: a waitlist control, low vision training only, or a broader programme that adds counselling, exercise training, and home assessment with modifications. The intervention lasts eight weeks with four on-site sessions, and researchers measure general and vision-related quality of life as the main outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a multidisciplinary vision rehabilitation programme combining low vision training, exercise, counselling, and home modifications
- What this could lead to
- If the programme works, it could give adults with low vision a clearer path to better daily function and quality of life. It may also help shape how vision rehabilitation services are organised.
- What could go wrong
- This is a behavioural programme, not a drug, so results depend on how well participants stick with the training. Benefits may fade after the programme ends, and findings from Hong Kong may not apply everywhere.
