First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new virtual reality program designed to help adults with autism improve their social skills and daily functioning. 140 participants will either receive the VR training plus usual care, or usual care alone, for 3 months. Researchers will measure changes in social responsiveness and quality of life at 3 and 6 months.
What this could mean

Active substance
Virtual reality-based social cognitive training combined with cognitive behavioral therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, engaging way to help adults with autism improve social skills and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial. The virtual reality training may not be more effective than standard care, and results may not apply to everyone with autism.
