Virtual reality could train future psychiatric nurses without the anxiety
NCT ID NCT07663851
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a virtual reality simulation of a patient with schizophrenia can help nursing students feel more confident and less anxious when making clinical decisions. Thirty-two students will be split into two groups: one using the simulation alongside regular classes, and the other following the standard curriculum. Researchers will measure decision-making skills, self-confidence, and anxiety at three points during the academic term.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Virtual reality simulation of a patient with schizophrenia
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this virtual reality tool could become a standard part of psychiatric nursing education, helping students feel more prepared and less anxious before working with real patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 32 students, so results may not apply broadly. The simulation is specific to one culture and language, and its impact on actual patient care is not yet measured.
