Can VR goggles make brain surgery less scary?

NCT ID NCT05151822

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether patients can wear a virtual reality (VR) headset during awake brain surgery to help them stay calm and allow doctors to monitor brain functions. First, the VR headset was tested on people having orthopedic surgery under local anesthesia. Now, it is being tested on 50 patients having awake brain surgery for tumors or epilepsy. The goal is to see if patients can tolerate wearing the headset for at least one hour while performing language and thinking tests.
