Virtual hospital tour may calm Moms-to-Be facing early delivery

NCT ID NCT05547724

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a virtual reality (VR) tour of the delivery room and neonatal unit could reduce anxiety in pregnant women hospitalized with a high risk of preterm birth. The 85 participants were between 24 and 34 weeks pregnant and had received steroids for fetal lung development. The VR experience aimed to prepare them for a possible early delivery and help them feel more relaxed.

What this could mean

Active substance

virtual reality

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to lower stress for pregnant women facing preterm delivery.

What could go wrong

The trial was terminated early, so results are limited. It was a small study, and virtual reality may not work for everyone or could cause discomfort.
