NCT ID NCT06551753
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether using virtual reality goggles during the insertion of a port needle (a common procedure for chemotherapy) can improve comfort and satisfaction in cancer patients. 92 adults with stage I-III cancer were randomly assigned to either standard care or standard care plus a virtual reality distraction. The researchers measured comfort, satisfaction, and time perception before and after the procedure. The goal is to find a simple, effective way to reduce discomfort during this routine but often painful procedure.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to make port needle insertions more comfortable and less stressful for cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with 92 participants. The effect may be modest or not apply to all patients. Virtual reality may not work for everyone and could cause dizziness or discomfort in some.
