Could virtual reality ease neck pain? new study tests the idea
NCT ID NCT07195981
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether immersive virtual reality (VR) can help reduce pain, improve balance, and restore neck movement in people with cervical radiculopathy — a condition where a pinched nerve in the neck causes pain and numbness down one arm. 42 adults aged 35-50 took part. Some did VR exercises plus physical therapy, while others did only physical therapy. The goal was to see if VR adds extra benefit for pain and balance.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, drug-free way to ease neck pain and improve balance for people with cervical radiculopathy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effect of VR may be modest and needs confirmation in larger studies.
