First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding virtual reality (VR)-assisted walking exercises to standard therapy helps people with lower leg lymphedema walk better, improve daily function, and reduce swelling. Forty adults with lymphedema after cancer surgery will either receive standard care or standard care plus VR training using a special treadmill. The goal is to see if the VR approach makes rehabilitation more effective and engaging.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

virtual reality-assisted gait training using Rehawalk device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a more engaging and effective way to improve walking and daily function for people with lower limb lymphedema.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The VR approach may not provide significant benefits over standard therapy alone.
