First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether wearing virtual reality goggles during a colonoscopy or upper endoscopy can help patients need less sedation. Ten adults aged 21 to 65 will receive minimal sedation and wear a VR headset during the procedure. Researchers will measure how much sedative is used, patient pain, and satisfaction.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Virtual reality headset with noise-cancelling headphones
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a way to use less sedation during endoscopy, potentially leading to faster recovery and higher patient satisfaction.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The VR headset might not reduce sedation needs as hoped, and some patients may find it uncomfortable.
