Robot teacher for emergency doctors? study tests virtual coach for critical training

NCT ID NCT05062928

Summary

This study tested whether a computer-based virtual coach could train medical staff as effectively as a human instructor for a critical emergency procedure called REBOA, which is used to stop life-threatening bleeding. Fourteen healthcare trainees practiced the procedure on a mixed-reality simulator, with half guided by the virtual coach and half by a human instructor. The main goal was to see if the virtual coach was at least as good as the average human instructor for teaching this complex skill.
