First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether taking a higher dose of vitamin D during pregnancy can prevent asthma and persistent wheezing in children up to age 3. Researchers will give 2000 pregnant women either vitamin D or a placebo daily from week 22-26 of pregnancy until one week after delivery. The goal is to see if this simple supplement can reduce the risk of early childhood asthma.

- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could lead to a simple, safe way to reduce the risk of asthma in young children by giving higher doses of vitamin D during pregnancy.
