Can vibration therapy help stroke survivors move better?

NCT ID NCT07340034

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether applying vibration to a specific muscle or the whole arm can reduce spasticity (stiffness) and improve arm control in people who had a stroke 3 to 6 months ago. Fifty-four participants will receive either focal muscle vibration or whole upper limb vibration along with standard rehab. The goal is to see which method works better for easing muscle tightness and helping with daily movements.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

vibration therapy (focal muscle vibration or whole upper limb vibration)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a simple, non-drug therapy to reduce muscle stiffness and improve arm movement after a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 54 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke survivors. Vibration therapy may not work for everyone and could cause discomfort.
