Parents as IV prep partners: new landmark method aims to reduce pokes for kids

NCT ID NCT07333846

First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple guide (a "landmark") on the forearm can help parents and staff place a numbing patch (EMLA) exactly where a vein is located in young children. Researchers will first map the vein with ultrasound, then ask parents and staff to mark the spot using a visual guide. Ultrasound will check if the mark is accurate. The goal is to make IV placement smoother and less stressful for kids under 6 having surgery.
