Scientists probe link between blood vessel leak and fluid overload in deadly shock

NCT ID NCT04474431

Summary

This study aimed to understand if high levels of a protein called VEGF-A, which can make blood vessels leaky, are linked to fluid buildup in patients with septic shock. Researchers measured VEGF-A levels and tracked fluid balance in 103 adults with this severe condition during their first days in intensive care. The goal was to gather knowledge to potentially inform future treatments, not to test a new therapy.
