Will Acted-Out vaping stories persuade teens to stay away?
NCT ID NCT07767929
First seen Aug 17, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 17, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether vaping prevention ads with acted-out storylines are more persuasive than testimonial-style ads or neutral videos. About 1,910 U.S. teens and young adults (ages 13-20) who vape or are at risk of vaping will watch one of three ad types and then answer questions about engagement, emotions, and perceived effectiveness. The goal is to find which ad style best captures attention and discourages vaping.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Behavioral intervention: viewing narrative vaping prevention video ads (acted-out vs. testimonial vs. control)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, these ads could become a powerful tool to prevent vaping initiation and reduce e-cigarette use among teens and young adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study measuring attitudes and engagement, not actual vaping behavior. Ads that seem persuasive in a survey may not change real-world habits.
