Spine surgery infection fighter: vancomycin powder put to the test

NCT ID NCT03839914

First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 02, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether placing vancomycin powder directly into the wound during open back surgery can lower the chance of infection in high-risk patients (e.g., those with spinal deformities or tumors). About 76 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care plus the powder or standard care alone. The goal is to see if this simple addition safely reduces surgical site infections.
