Veterans helping veterans: new study aims to stop suicide

NCT ID NCT07286383

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new program called PREVAIL-VA, where trained peer specialists—veterans who have their own mental health challenges—provide one-on-one support to fellow veterans at risk for suicide. Over 3 months, 306 veterans will receive either this peer support or usual care. The goal is to see if talking with someone who truly understands can reduce suicide risk and improve recovery.
