Vaginal surgery vs. Belly-Button cuts: which sterilization method spares sexual function?
NCT ID NCT07637201
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two ways to perform female sterilization: V-NOTES (surgery through the vagina using a tiny camera) and standard laparoscopy (surgery through small cuts in the belly). The goal is to see which method better preserves sexual function and speeds up recovery after the procedure. Women aged 30 to 45 who want permanent sterilization will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches and followed for six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If V-NOTES proves better, it could offer women a less invasive sterilization option with faster recovery and less impact on sexual function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, single-center trial, so results may not apply to all women. Differences between the two procedures may be small or not clinically meaningful.
