First seen Apr 15, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tested a computer alert that helps doctors decide if a hospitalized patient's pneumonia is caused by bacteria or a virus. Patients with signs of viral infection were randomly assigned to either receive a message from the antibiotic team suggesting stopping antibiotics, or usual care. The goal was to see if this approach reduces unnecessary antibiotic use without harming patients.
