Drink dye test could stop fake urine samples in addiction clinics
NCT ID NCT07356349
First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tests if a harmless dye (fluorescein sodium) added to a drink can prove urine samples are real and not tampered with. About 114 adults with substance use disorder will drink either a dyed or plain Gatorade, then provide a urine sample 15 minutes later. Researchers will check the sample for fluorescence to see if the dye shows up. This could help clinics ensure honest drug testing.
