New study aims to set standards for diagnosing arm artery disease
NCT ID NCT05192707
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study measures oxygen pressure in the skin of the upper arm to help diagnose chronic limb ischemia, a condition where blood flow is severely reduced. Researchers will test 30 healthy volunteers and at least 30 patients with known arm artery disease to find normal values and a threshold for critical ischemia. The goal is to create standardized guidelines for using this non-invasive test in the upper limb.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) measurement
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish standard normal values and diagnostic thresholds for upper limb ischemia, improving detection and treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 39 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It focuses on measurement, not treatment, so direct patient benefit is limited.
