New pill may replace steroids for severe colitis flares
NCT ID NCT07546097
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests if upadacitinib, a newer pill, works as well as standard steroid injections for treating sudden, severe flare-ups of ulcerative colitis. About 46 adults with acute severe colitis will receive either upadacitinib or steroids for 3 months, with frequent checkups. The goal is to see if upadacitinib can quickly calm symptoms like diarrhea and bleeding with fewer side effects, though ongoing medication is still needed to manage the disease.
