Can a breathing test predict sudden death in epilepsy?

NCT ID NCT04134754

First seen Mar 13, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looks at why some people with epilepsy die suddenly and unexpectedly (SUDEP). Researchers will monitor how seizures affect breathing, heart function, and the ability to wake up. They want to see if a weak response to high carbon dioxide levels during sleep or after a seizure plays a role. About 335 adults with epilepsy will be followed for up to 10 years.
