Skin cancer study seeks to unlock immune secrets of light therapy

NCT ID NCT05020912

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at how photodynamic therapy (PDT) affects the immune system around basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a common skin cancer. Researchers want to understand these immune changes to develop better treatments. About 28 adults scheduled for Mohs surgery will have their tumors and blood tested before and after PDT. The goal is not to treat the cancer directly in this study, but to gather knowledge that could improve future therapies.
