Ultrasound may outshine standard tests for airway risks in obesity

NCT ID NCT07528677

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study will test if using ultrasound to measure neck structures can better predict breathing tube difficulties during anesthesia in obese patients (BMI over 35) compared to standard methods like mouth opening and neck size. Researchers will measure specific neck distances with ultrasound and compare them to actual intubation ease in 70 adults undergoing elective surgery. The goal is to improve safety by finding a more accurate, non-invasive prediction tool.
