New ultrasound method may cut radiation and kidney risk in aneurysm patients
NCT ID NCT04196543
First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a special ultrasound with contrast dye can effectively monitor patients after abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, potentially replacing standard CT scans. Forty adults who had aortic stent placement received both ultrasound and CT scans shortly after surgery. The goal was to see if ultrasound could accurately measure the aneurysm sac and detect leaks, while avoiding the radiation and kidney-damaging contrast agents used in CT. If successful, this approach could make follow-up safer and more convenient for patients.
