Ultrasound waves could soothe stubborn knee pain
NCT ID NCT07534605
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether ultrasound therapy, given in two different modes, can reduce pain and improve daily function in people with iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). 75 adults aged 45-60 were split into three groups: exercise only, exercise plus continuous ultrasound, or exercise plus pulsed ultrasound. All received 15 sessions. Researchers measured pain, function, quality of life, and IT band thickness before, right after treatment, and 3 months later.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ultrasound therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, non-invasive way to ease pain and improve mobility for people with IT band syndrome.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with no blinding, so results may be biased. The benefits seen might come from the exercise alone, not the ultrasound.
