New scan could give early warning for deadly transplant complication

NCT ID NCT03865589

Summary

This study is testing a special type of ultrasound to see if it can detect a dangerous liver condition earlier than current methods. The condition, called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), is a serious complication that can happen after a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Researchers will scan patients before and after their transplant to see if changes in liver stiffness measured by the ultrasound can predict who will develop SOS, potentially allowing for earlier treatment.
