Hidden danger before surgery: study probes diabetic stomachs

NCT ID NCT04668651

Summary

This study aimed to understand if diabetic patients have food or liquid left in their stomachs before scheduled surgery, even after following standard fasting rules. Researchers planned to use a simple, non-invasive ultrasound scan to compare the stomachs of diabetic and non-diabetic patients. The goal was to gather information to help prevent a rare but serious lung complication that can occur if stomach contents get into the lungs during anesthesia. The study was withdrawn and did not enroll any participants.
