New nerve block technique aims to cut opioid use in heart surgery

NCT ID NCT07315308

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether a numbing injection given before heart surgery can lower the amount of opioids (strong painkillers) needed during the operation. The injection targets nerves in the chest wall to block pain from the surgical cut. Researchers will compare opioid use, pain levels, and recovery in 80 adults having elective heart surgery. The goal is to find a safer way to manage pain and reduce opioid side effects.
