Ultrasound may replace scopes for Kids' vocal cord checks

NCT ID NCT06406725

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple ultrasound at the bedside can reliably detect vocal fold motion impairment in children who are on noninvasive breathing support in the ICU. About 50 children will get two ultrasounds of their vocal folds—one while on the breathing machine and one after—and the results will be compared to the standard scope exam. The goal is to see if ultrasound can be a gentler, faster way to diagnose vocal cord problems in these young patients.
