New ultrasound study sheds light on mysterious hip and leg pain
NCT ID NCT06783439
Summary
This study aimed to improve the diagnosis of piriformis syndrome, a condition where a muscle in the buttock pinches the sciatic nerve, causing hip and leg pain. Researchers used ultrasound to measure the thickness of the piriformis muscle and the sciatic nerve in 19 patients, comparing their painful side to their painless side. The goal was to see if ultrasound could help doctors better understand whether the pain comes more from the muscle itself or from the pinched nerve.
