Throat cancer diagnosis gets a High-Tech boost: ultrasound may cut unnecessary scans

NCT ID NCT07548268

First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding a special ultrasound of the tonsils to the usual tests can help doctors diagnose oropharyngeal cancer more accurately. About 180 adults with suspected throat cancer will be split into two groups: one gets standard care, the other gets standard care plus the ultrasound. The goal is to see if the ultrasound leads to more correct biopsies, fewer extra scans, and a faster diagnosis.
