ER doctors test handheld scanners to spot heart failure in breathless patients

NCT ID NCT07324980

Summary

This study aims to see if a quick, portable ultrasound scan can help emergency room doctors figure out why a patient is suddenly struggling to breathe. Researchers will test if looking at a major vein in the belly and scanning the lungs and heart can accurately tell if the problem is fluid in the lungs from heart failure or something else. The goal is to help doctors make faster, more accurate decisions for 200 adults who come to the ER with severe breathing trouble.
