Zapping the Brain's fear center: new ultrasound treatment tested for severe anxiety

NCT ID NCT04557891

Summary

This UCLA study is testing whether a gentle, focused ultrasound can help people with severe, treatment-resistant anxiety. The ultrasound targets a deep part of the brain called the amygdala, which is involved in fear and anxiety. Researchers will compare real ultrasound treatment to a sham (fake) treatment in 48 participants to see if it safely reduces anxiety symptoms.
