Eye ultrasound may spot spinal headaches early

NCT ID NCT07100158

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring the optic nerve sheath with ultrasound can help predict postdural puncture headache (PDPH) in 176 adults having knee replacement under spinal anesthesia. PDPH is a headache that gets worse when sitting or standing and better when lying down. Researchers measured the nerve sheath before and after the spinal tap to see if changes could identify who would get a headache. The goal is to find a simple, non-invasive way to diagnose this complication early.
