New ultrasonic tool promises less pain after wisdom tooth surgery
NCT ID NCT07196904
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study tested whether using an ultrasonic surgical device (piezosurgery) instead of a traditional rotary drill reduces pain, swelling, and jaw stiffness after removing impacted wisdom teeth. Twenty-two healthy adults each had one tooth removed with the ultrasonic tool and the other with the standard drill. The researchers also measured a protein in saliva called hsCRP to track inflammation. The goal is to find a gentler surgical method that helps patients recover more comfortably.
