Could a One-Week radiation course be just as good as three weeks for breast cancer?
NCT ID NCT07274800
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed study tested whether a shorter, more intense course of radiation (1 week) works as well as the standard 3-week course for women with early breast cancer after lumpectomy. Sixty women were split into two groups to compare side effects, cosmetic results, and cancer control over 24 months. The goal is to see if the quicker schedule can be a safe and convenient alternative.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Radiotherapy (ultra-hypofractionated vs. hypofractionated)
What this could lead to
If the shorter 1-week schedule proves as safe and effective as the 3-week schedule, it could offer a more convenient treatment option for early breast cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The shorter schedule might increase side effects or reduce cancer control, but the study aims to compare these outcomes.
