Could a new radiation approach let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery?

NCT ID NCT04677413

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This early-phase trial tests a new way to give radiation therapy for locally advanced rectal cancer. The goal is to see if giving higher doses of radiation in a shorter time, along with chemotherapy, can shrink the tumor enough to avoid surgery. About 27 adults with stage T3-4 or node-positive rectal cancer who have not had prior treatment will take part. The main focus is safety and finding the highest dose that does not cause severe side effects.
