Could a simple pill stop recurring UTIs? new trial seeks answers
NCT ID NCT07184827
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether the drug U101 (pentosan polysulfate sodium) can prevent recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged 20 to 75. About 348 women with a history of frequent UTIs will take either U101 or a placebo daily for 24 weeks. Researchers will track how many women stay infection-free and whether their quality of life improves.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a new daily pill to help women with frequent UTIs avoid repeat infections and improve quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 3 trial, but results are not yet known. The drug may not work better than placebo, and side effects are possible. It is only tested in women aged 20-75.
