Family ties: could Parents' personalities hold clues to mood disorder risks?
NCT ID NCT07679204
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether parents of people with bipolar II disorder or major depressive disorder have certain personality traits (called Type D, which involves negative emotions and social inhibition) and lower life satisfaction. Researchers compare these parents to parents of healthy individuals, as well as to patients themselves. The goal is to better understand family patterns that might help design future support programs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could identify psychological traits in family members that may guide supportive interventions for relatives of people with mood disorders.
What could go wrong
This is an observational, cross-sectional study with a small sample size (180 participants), so findings may not apply broadly and cannot prove cause and effect.
