First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests a two-step treatment for adolescents and young adults recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. First, participants receive a low dose of anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) to calm the immune system, then verapamil to reduce stress on insulin-making cells. The goal is to preserve the body's own insulin production and lower blood sugar. The trial uses a blood test to identify who is most likely to benefit from ATG.
