New drug combo aims to boost surgery success in bile duct cancer
NCT ID NCT07267078
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether adding two immunotherapy drugs (tuvonralimab and iparomlimab) to standard chemotherapy before surgery can improve outcomes for people with bile duct or gallbladder cancer. About 45 adults with resectable or borderline-resectable cancer will receive 2-4 cycles of the combination, then undergo surgery. Researchers will check if the treatment leads to cleaner surgical margins, deeper tumor shrinkage, and longer survival without major side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tuvonralimab and Iparomlimab (immunotherapy drugs) combined with gemcitabine-oxaliplatin chemotherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new treatment option that helps more patients with biliary tract cancer have successful surgery and live longer without the cancer returning.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 45 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Immunotherapy can cause serious side effects, and the combination may not improve outcomes enough to change standard care.
