Glow-in-the-Dark dye could help surgeons spot hidden sarcoma tumors in Children's lungs

NCT ID NCT07658768

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests whether a dye called TumorGlow (indocyanine green) can help surgeons see and remove sarcoma tumors that have spread to the lungs in children aged 12 to 17. The dye is given intravenously up to five days before surgery, and during the operation, a special camera detects its glow to highlight tumors. The goal is to check if the dye is safe and whether it helps surgeons find all tumors, including unexpected ones, so they can be removed in a single surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

indocyanine green (ICG, TumorGlow)

What this could lead to

If successful, this technique could help surgeons remove all cancerous tissue during one operation, potentially reducing the need for repeat surgeries.

What could go wrong

This is a very early pilot study with only 20 children, so results may not apply to everyone. The dye could cause side effects, and the imaging may not detect all tumors.
