Can precision radiation delay cancer spread? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT06587490
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This Phase 3 trial is testing whether adding a precise, high-dose radiation treatment called SABR to standard therapies can delay cancer progression in people with up to 10 metastatic tumors. About 300 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care alone or standard care plus SABR. The study will track how long it takes for the cancer to worsen and monitor side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR)
What this could lead to
If successful, adding SABR to standard care could help people with limited metastatic cancer live longer without their disease getting worse.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but results may not apply to all cancer types. SABR can cause side effects like fatigue or damage to nearby organs, and the benefit over standard care alone is not yet proven.
