New drug cocktail aims to boost transplant success in tough leukemias

NCT ID NCT07575412

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding two drugs (SHR2554 and azacitidine) to standard chemotherapy before a stem cell transplant can help people with high-risk or relapsed/refractory acute leukemia or myelodysplastic syndromes. About 180 participants aged 15-60 will be randomly assigned to receive either the new drug combo plus standard chemo or standard chemo alone, followed by a transplant. The main goal is to see if the combo improves the chance of staying free of cancer relapse or death one year later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

SHR2554 and azacitidine

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could improve the chance of staying cancer-free after a stem cell transplant for people with hard-to-treat leukemia or MDS.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 2 trial with only 180 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The added drugs also increase the risk of side effects like infection and organ damage.
