Could a $10 arthritis pill tame rare blood cancers?

NCT ID NCT06541249

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether low-dose methotrexate, a safe and inexpensive arthritis drug, can help people with certain blood cancers (polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, and myelofibrosis). About 54 adults will take the drug alongside their current treatment to see if it shrinks the spleen, improves symptoms, and lowers blood counts. If it works, it could offer a low-cost option for patients who cannot afford newer, expensive drugs.
