Scientists probe why elderly struggle to recover after major trauma

NCT ID NCT02577731

Summary

This study aims to understand why older adults have trouble recovering from severe injuries like major fractures. Researchers will compare bone marrow and blood samples from 400 trauma patients, elective hip surgery patients, and healthy people to see how injury changes stem cells and muscles. The goal is to learn why some patients develop long-term problems like anemia and muscle loss after trauma.
