Brain metastases breakthrough? scientists probe how a powerful drug crosses into the brain
NCT ID NCT07653893
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at breast cancer that has spread to the brain. Researchers want to understand how much of the drug trastuzumab deruxtecan gets into the fluid around the brain and spinal cord, and whether that amount relates to how well the drug shrinks brain tumors. About 60 adults with this type of cancer will take part, providing samples and scans to help answer these questions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors understand how well this drug reaches brain metastases, potentially improving treatment strategies for breast cancer that has spread to the brain.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase observational study, so results may not apply to all patients. The drug's effectiveness in the brain is still being explored, and side effects are possible.
