New feeding tube technique may shield preterm lungs from silent damage
NCT ID NCT03646045
First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looks at whether feeding through a tube placed past the stomach (transpyloric) can prevent tiny amounts of stomach fluid from getting into the lungs of preterm babies on breathing machines. About 46 very low birth weight infants will be enrolled to see if this feeding method reduces lung inflammation compared to regular stomach feeding. The goal is to find a safer way to feed these fragile babies.
